- Follow the Leader
Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. – Joshua 1:9
A financial magazine does a yearly survey listing the top most-loved and most-hated CEOs of America’s major corporations. It isn’t a pleasant idea to think one might make the most hated list! Leadership has a price at every level, not just at the top, and sometimes your best intentions or desire to do the right thing are met with misunderstanding and opposition.
In the Old Testament, Joshua was the successor of Moses. Imagine what it must have been like attempting to fill those shoes. Joshua faced an unknown future with the overwhelming task of leading a fledgling nation, only upon faith in God’s word.
The economic fluctuations since the pandemic have thrown some people and families into very different circumstances than they previously knew. Experiencing “new normals“ can cause distress, but remember the good news of the gospel; the Lord is always faithful and never abandons those who follow Him. Joshua had unshakable confidence in God’s care, causing him to challenge those giving in to their fear of the future, “choose this day whom you will serve … but for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15). While God allows your faith to be tested, He expects you to choose Him and trust Him.
The best place to start any new season of life is on your knees. As you pray, include those governing the United States—both those you appreciate and those you find challenging—and ask that all will find a new trust in God, and follow His lead, as they guide the nation.
Today’s Verse: Joshua 1:9
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Recommended for further reading: Psalm 9:10-14
And those who know your name put their trust in you,
for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.
11 Sing praises to the Lord, who sits enthroned in Zion!
Tell among the peoples his deeds!
12 For he who avenges blood is mindful of them;
he does not forget the cry of the afflicted.
13 Be gracious to me, O Lord!
See my affliction from those who hate me,
O you who lift me up from the gates of death,
14 that I may recount all your praises,
that in the gates of the daughter of Zion
I may rejoice in your salvation. All Scripture quotations and audio are from the ESV® Bible (The Holy Bible, English Standard Version®), copyright © 2001 by Crossway, a publishing ministry of Good News Publishers. Used by permission. All rights reserved.
