Since 2001, The Presidential Prayer Team has been the place Americans turn for encouragement and a clear call to pray for the nation’s leaders. Across twenty-five years, that invitation has grown into a fellowship of more than 3 million people who have joined this work of prayer.
We are a national, non-partisan Christian ministry. Our mission is steady: encourage, inspire, and pray for the president, national leaders, and those who serve in uniform. We also want prayer to become a daily habit, not a response only in a crisis. Prayer, we believe, changes a nation one heart at a time.
We hold that Almighty God rules over the affairs of men and moves in answer to the prayers of His people. Members of The Presidential Prayer Team raise that covering every day, with devotion that does not shift with the headlines.
The call goes out through five websites and a large, active email list. In a typical week those messages number in the several millions, a volume that places PPT among the top nine of the ten world email-volume tracked by the Cisco Talos Reputation Center. The websites see several hundred thousand sessions a day. The content is updated around the clock, and it is often carried by news outlets, churches, personal sites, and social media.
In 2016 PPT opened a publishing arm, the Pray First Network, at PrayFirst.org. Print and media from that desk reached 650 radio outlets, in major cities and in smaller communities alike. Pause to Pray was the one-minute radio feature: one U.S. leader each day, and a call to pray for that person. Pray First also issued the Prayer Journal, a quarterly in print, so members could pray the same leaders together, page by page, not only on a screen.
Pray First Network also runs Pray First Responders. Text info to 772911. When a significant event breaks, thousands of phones receive a PrayNow alert, so prayer can start in the moment rather than after the briefing arrives.
Some days ask for more than the daily briefing. Three of them have become part of the year for this ministry.
Pray the Vote. In election years, PPT presents PrayTheVote.org. It offers accurate, non-partisan information on candidates and issues, so prayer can be prepared and specific. It also asks the praying community to take part: register, vote, and pray as the next leaders are chosen.
National Day of Prayer. Each year this observance falls on the first Thursday in May. Congress set aside a day of prayer in 1952, and in 1988 fixed it on that Thursday. Since 2003, PPT’s reach by email and the web has made it the online gathering for that day, so people can take part from home or the office, not only from a church service. Online prayer rooms open for shared prayer and for listening as others pray. Printed guides go to churches and members, laid out so a group can pray in order through the current federal and state offices and the people who hold them.
Christmas on I Pray Radio. Several times a year, and especially in May, I Pray Radio streams prayers recorded by members, produced so the wider membership can pray along. At Christmas the same service sets aside talk and commercials for a careful mix of Christ-centered and traditional Christmas music. That program is among the most listened-to hours of the year.
Joining-membership is simple and always free. Give us a few details, chiefly your email address, and the daily and weekly prayer briefings will begin arriving in your inbox as soon as tomorrow morning. You may stop them at any time. Your information and your email stay private. [JOIN HERE]
You are also welcome to visit any of our websites, to learn, to be encouraged, and to pray with us, whether or not you become a member. When you do join, you are among people who understand prayer and treat it as worth keeping.
