Speaker Calls House Back to Washington

She wants vote on $25 billion USPS infusion.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi of California finalized plans Monday to provide billions of dollars in funding for the Postal Service, seeking to prop up the agency ahead of the November election.

The House will vote Saturday on $25 billion to address funding shortfalls and block organizational changes at the postal service.

She said the bill, which will be released by the House Oversight Committee in the coming days, paints a “clear choice” to lawmakers.

“We want them to vote for this, that’s why I held back on some suggestions people want,” the speaker said.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell expressed little urgency to address the issue, saying the “Postal Service is going to be just fine.” White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows also dismissed the Speaker’s efforts as “partisan.” He told reporters, “It’s not only unrealistic, it’s unnecessary.”

The one-day return for lawmakers is a rare interruption of the chamber’s August recess.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the House lawyers and lawmakers who are continuing to put the “finishing touches” on the Postal Service funding bill.
  • About the operational changes being made by the Postal Service that are seen by some as a means to eliminate universal mail-in voting for the presidential election.
  • For Postmaster General DeJoy who will soon be appearing before the House Oversight Committee to testify on the politics of the changes being made at the agency.
