VA Secretary Seeks to Reduce Department Workforce

He said the department’s workforce is “larger than the active duty Army.”

Secretary of Veterans Affairs (VA) Doug Collins has canceled close to 600 DEI-related contracts and placed probationary employees on leave in keeping with the goals of President Trump’s administration. Secretary Collins estimates that around 15 percent of the department’s workforce has been reduced.

“Most people don’t realize that the VA workforce currently is larger than the active duty Army. So that would be a lot of people,“ Secretary Collins said. “But it’s a goal for us, because we’re never going to put in jeopardy patient health care or the disability benefits getting to the people who need them, the veterans who have earned them.”

“The biggest difference you’re going to see is a streamlining and really a focus on making sure that everything we do in the VA is efficiently serviced toward that veteran process,” the VA secretary added.

The VA Department’s current offer for deferred resignation ends April 30.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for Secretary Collins as he oversees the Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • For VA employees and staff as they seek to care for veterans and their dependents.
  • For President Trump and members of his Cabinet to be led by the Lord as they work to trim government wasteful spending.
