Secretary Rubio says, “We are reversing decades of bloat and bureaucracy at the State Department,”
The U.S. State Department is planning to close 132 offices, a 17 percent reduction in size. The under secretaries of state have also been instructed to craft plans that will reduce each of their departments by 15 percent. As part of its consolidation program, the department will also transfer 137 other offices.
“In its current form, the Department is bloated, bureaucratic, and unable to perform its essential diplomatic mission in this new era of great power competition,” Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on Tuesday. “That is why today I am announcing a comprehensive reorganization plan that will bring the Department into the twenty-first century.”
“This approach will empower the Department from the ground up, from the bureaus to the embassies,” the secretary said. “Region-specific functions will be consolidated to increase functionality, redundant offices will be removed, and non-statutory programs that are misaligned with America’s core national interests will cease to exist.”
Secretary Rubio posted, “These sweeping changes will empower our talented diplomats to put America and Americans first.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Rubio as he oversees the consolidation or elimination of offices to streamline the State Department.
- For wisdom for U.S. officials in President Trump’s administration as they assess ways to trim government spending and reduce the workforce.
- For government workers who are laid off to find meaningful employment to replace their former positions.
