The service says the updated customs declaration policy is causing “multi-day transit delays.”
International shipping service DHL announced that it will be pausing shipments from foreign businesses to private individual customers in the United States that have a declared value of $800 or more “until further notice.” A U.S. customs policy went into effect on April 5 under President Donald Trump’s tariff framework that lowered the threshold of shipments that require formal clearance from $2,500 to $800, a shift that the company says has led to “multi-day transit delays.”
“This change has caused a surge in formal customs clearances, which we are handling around the clock,” the company stated. The notice continued that the suspension was a “temporary measure, and we will share updates as the situation evolves.”
Business-to-consumer shipments worth less than $800 will not be affected, nor will business-to-business shipments, though DHL warned that they could also face delays.
