Four House Members Travel to El Salvador

They seek “proof of life” after being denied a meeting with a deported gang member.

Four members of the House paid for their own trip to El Salvador on Monday to advocate for the release of Kilmar Armando Abrego García from that country’s maximum security prison. The four legislators had requested approval to form a congressional delegation for their travel after Senator Chris Van Hollen of Maryland made a trip to visit the deported Salvadoran last week. House Oversight Committee chair James Comer denied the request.

“If you .. wish to meet with him, you can spend your own money,” Chairman Comer wrote. “But I will not approve a single dime of taxpayer funds for use on the excursion you have requested.”

Representatives Robert Garcia of California, Maxwell Frost of Florisa, Yassamin Ansari of Arizona, and Maxine Dexter of Oregon, arrived in the capital of San Salvador Monday but were denied a meeting with the imprisoned, confirmed gang member. The unofficial delegation then demanded “proof of life” from Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Congressman Frost said that the group went to “build off of the work of Sen. Van Hollen.” He stated, “What we want to know is where is [Abrego Garcia] at now? What is his condition now? His family deserves to know, the people deserve to know.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For members of Congress as they address immigration and deportation concerns.
  • For judges who are hearing cases regarding the removal of foreign gang members from the U.S.
  • For the president and members of his administration as they seek to return violent illegal aliens to their home countries.
