The president’s administration has sought to deport violent criminal alien gang members.
The Supreme Court issued a rare overnight order this past weekend temporarily blocking President Trump’s administration from deporting a group of immigrants in Texas.
The court ordered the president’s administration to respond to the emergency appeal “as soon as possible,” which it did later that day. In the meantime, the court said, “The government is directed not to remove any member of the putative class of detainees from the United States until further order of this court.”
President Trump’s administration has been deporting migrants in the United States under the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, which the Supreme Court ruled to allow earlier this month. However, the court’s somewhat vague opinion left a number of legal loose ends, meaning that the high court will have to continue to clarify the details of the decision.
