In the News…
District Judge Amy Berman Jackson placed a preliminary injunction against President Donald Trump’s administration last month to keep the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) intact while a lawsuit from the National Treasury Employees Union plays out. The judge said last week that she would prevent the mass firing of employees in the agency. Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought had indicated the plan was to reduce the staff from 1,700 to 200.
Judge Berman Jackson stated that, if the administration is permitted to lay off employees as the circuit court ruling allowed, it would “decimate the agency and render it unable to comply with its statutory duties.” She stated, if the plan were allowed to proceed before she has issued a ruling in the employee union’s suit, “there will be no agency standing.”
The judge scheduled a hearing for April 28 regarding the proposed reduction in force (RIF). She said, “I’m willing to resolve it quickly, but I’m not going to let this RIF go forward until I have.”
