Defense Secretary Welcomes Salvadoran Counterpart to Pentagon

Secretary Hegseth commended the relationship between the U.S. and El Salvador.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth welcomed Salvadoran Defense Minister René Francis Merino Monroy to the Pentagon this week. Their discussions included the Salvadoran success against crime and its navy’s drug interdiction capabilities.

Secretary Hegseth told Minister Merino Monroy, “What’s clear to us … is that our relationship with El Salvador is stronger than ever, and it’s only just beginning.” The U.S. defense secretary called the Salvadoran government’s progress “nothing short of a miracle.”

“Your country’s victories over violent cartels and criminal enterprises — groups that terrorized your people and your communities — are a model for all in our hemisphere,” Secretary Hegseth said to the Salvadoran minister.

Secretary Hegseth also expressed gratitude for the way El Salvador has cooperated and partnered with the United States to ensure the security, prosperity, and sovereignty of the region and hemisphere.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for Secretary Hegseth as he meets with foreign counterparts to strengthen alliances.
  • For President Trump to receive God’s guidance as commander-in-chief of the U.S. Armed Forces.
