SEC Votes to End Defense of Climate Disclosure Rules

The commission files a letter withdrawing its defense in court.

The Securities and Exchange Commission voted today to end its defense of disclosure requirements for climate-related risks and greenhouse gas emissions. The rules were adopted in March of 2024 and mandated the disclosure of detailed climate risks by companies.

SEC Acting Chairman Mark Uyeda said, “The goal of today’s Commission action and notification to the court is to cease the Commission’s involvement in the defense of the costly and unnecessarily intrusive climate change disclosure rules.”

The commission stated that after the vote, “SEC staff sent a letter to the court stating that the Commission withdraws its defense of the rules and that Commission counsel are no longer authorized to advance the arguments in the brief the Commission had filed.“

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Acting Chair Uyeda to be discerning as he oversees the SEC.
  • For wisdom for SEC officials as they assess court cases and litigation that is still pending.
