Ontario Premier Doug Ford recently indicated that Canada would be open to ending tariffs on American products if the U.S. did the same.
Premier Ford said, “We’ve had this conversation for over the last month. We don’t want tariffs. We have another $65 billion dollars with a tariff to launch today. That’s the last thing we want to do because it’s just, again, it’s going to hurt both countries. It’s going to hurt American workers. That’s the last thing I want.“
The Ontario premier also said, “We’d be willing to take those off tomorrow if [President Trump] took all the tariffs off.” He also stated that “China is the problem.“
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt responded that President Trump is “always open to a phone call“ with foreign officials who want to negotiate tariffs.
