Interior Secretary taps Fish and Wildlife Service leader.
Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt announced Margaret Everson has taken over the duties of Director of the National Parks Service on Monday due to the retirement of David Vela. Everson has been serving as the principal deputy director of the Fish and Wildlife Service, as well as a counselor to the Interior Secretary.
“Margaret Everson is a great leader who will provide a steady hand as this transition takes place for the National Park Service,” Secretary Bernhardt said.
“David Vela has served the public for 30 years and announced his upcoming retirement today,” said the Interior secretary. “He has always been committed to the mission of the National Park Service and I wish him well with his future endeavors.”
