House Passes AI and Nanotech Border Security Bill

The legislation seeks to enhance border enforcement through advanced technology.

The House of Representatives passed the bipartisan Emerging Innovative Border Technologies Act last week, which seeks to advance the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in border security. Sponsored by Representatives Lou Correa of California and Morgan Luttrell of Texas, the bill requires the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to submit a plan to Congress on how AI, machine learning, and nanotechnology can improve border enforcement.

The sponsors emphasized that leveraging advanced technology could enhance security efforts, combat drug trafficking, and support trade and commerce.

“Securing our border requires more than just manpower — it requires cutting-edge technology that gives our agents the tools they need to stay ahead of the threats we face,” Congressman Luttrell stated. “This bill passing the House with strong bipartisan support shows that securing our border isn’t a partisan issue, it’s a national security priority.”

The bill, which previously stalled in the Senate, now heads to the upper chamber for further consideration. Both legislators called on the Senate to act swiftly, asserting that border security is a shared national priority rather than a partisan issue.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For members of Congress as they seek to support the Department of Homeland Security’s use of technology.
  • For wisdom for U.S. officials as they implement AI and development technology for national security.
