He pledges that the U.S. will make more oil and gas leases available.
Interior Secretary Doug Burgum spoke before thousands of oil and gas executives this week during the CERAWeek conference in Houston, hosted by S&P Global conferences. There he shared his vision for federal land management, which will make more oil and gas leases available to pay down America’s national debt.
“If Interior was a company it would have the largest balance sheet in the world,” Secretary Burgum said during his address. “We’re looking at the totality of our natural resources as national assets that must be sustainability developed to grow jobs and pay down our debt.”
“We’re actually holding oil and gas leases again on federal lands,” the Interior secretary added. “And we’ll see a lot more of those.”
The perspective of viewing the millions of acres of America’s federal lands as untapped capital is a notable shift from the previous administration’s policies, which sought to curb oil and gas leases and conserve federal lands as a primary way to address climate change.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Burgum as he seeks to increase the oil and gas leases available for energy production.
- For officials in the Department of the Interior as they shift the focus of the agency toward reducing the national debt.
