Looking at the images from the James Webb Space Telescope, a person can feel like a mere amoeba compared to the vastness of the universe. David, perhaps while he was a shepherd in the fields at night, saw the moon and stars and had similar thoughts, “What is man that you are mindful of him, and the sons of man that you care for him?” (Psalm 8:4). Why does God pay attention to a tiny human, when heaven is His throne and earth is His footstool (Isaiah 66:1)?
The good news is that He pays attention to mere humans because He loves them! God’s love is so vast that He redeemed humanity, purchased them back from sin, through the blood of His precious Son (John 3:16). He loves you (1 John 4:9), He hears you, (1 Peter 3:12), and He answers your prayers (Matthew 7:8). Paul says God’s strength is perfected through our weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). He also says that God chose the weak things of the world to shame the wise (1 Corinthians 1:27).
When you feel overwhelmed or inadequate compared to trials of this world, or even just living from day to day, know that, as today’s verse states, all power is in His hands. As singer and songwriter J.J. Heller put it, “When my world is shaking… I never leave Your hands.” The Father’s wonderful love is available to lift you up and give you strength. Seek and serve Him with gladness. Pray those serving in the halls of government to look to the Lord for greatness and strength. All good things come from Him.
