Action called necessary to defend American aluminum industry.
President Trump signed a proclamation on Thursday to reinstate the 10 percent tariffs on new aluminum imports from Canada. They are set to take effect on August 16.
Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer advised the president to sign the proclamation. President Trump said, “Several months ago, my administration agreed to lift those tariffs in return for a promise from the Canadian government: that its aluminum industry would not flood our country with exports and kill all our aluminum jobs, which is exactly what they did.”
Officials with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce have expressed concerns over the re-imposition which they believe will increase costs to American manufacturers.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For President Trump as he seeks to protect American industries and American jobs.
- That Canada and Mexico would adhere to the agreements made as part of the USMCA that took effect just one month ago.
