The Battle for Your Mind

Take every thought captive to obey Christ. – 2 Corinthians 10:5

Contemporary American society has experienced an increase in immorality, profanity, and violence. Previous ethical standards, which were based on the morals and teachings of the Bible, are contradicted and opposed on several fronts. Sadly, many Christians are not anchored in the truth of God’s Word and are like ships being carried away on a tide. They may not consciously accept or embrace this drift toward godlessness, but their lack of awareness influences them to conform to their environment.

But God’s plan for you is obedience and transformation! He calls you to renew your mind with His truth, countering the arguments and ideas of the world that oppose His Word. To accomplish this, you must know what the Scriptures say! The full text of today’s verse says, “We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.”

In numerous Bible passages, it becomes evident that followers of Christ are at war—and the battlefield that the enemy has chosen is your mind. You are told to put on God’s armor (Ephesians 6:11) and to submit to God and resist the devil (James 4:7). Be assured that God is working on your behalf (2 Thessalonians 3:3) to give you power and strength (1 Chronicles 29:12) and that He is your ultimate rescuer (Colossians 1:13).

Remember, when you belong to Christ, the Lord has the final say in your life. You are secure in the mighty hands of God. Spend time with Him in prayer and in His Word, so that the “lofty ideas” of the world have no enticement for you. Intercede today for America’s military leaders to also find courage and victory in a relationship with Jesus.

I, Paul, myself entreat you, by the meekness and gentleness of Christ—I who am humble when face to face with you, but bold toward you when I am away!— I beg of you that when I am present I may not have to show boldness with such confidence as I count on showing against some who suspect us of walking according to the flesh. For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete.

Look at what is before your eyes. If anyone is confident that he is Christ’s, let him remind himself that just as he is Christ’s, so also are we.
