Today is the deadline for Congress to fund the federal government. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer called for those in the Senate to work together, “Funding the government should be a bipartisan effort,” but voiced concerns that the the existing resolution had few bipartisan concessions. In response, Senate Majority Leaders John Thune said that he would be open to negotiations due to the urgency of the matter.

The House passed the stopgap measure earlier this week. A government shutdown, which would begin after midnight, means that only essential federal employees will be working.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio is concluding his trip to Canada today. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said that the discussions at the G7 Foreign Ministers’ meeting would focus on conflicts in the Middle East and Europe, cooperation in Africa and the Indo-Pacific, and stability in the Western Hemisphere.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For President Donald Trump to receive God’s guidance as he addresses the opioid crisis and international trade inequities.
  • For members of the Senate as they consider the legislation to avert a government shutdown.
  • For Secretary of State Rubio to be discerning as he engages G7 leaders and discusses peace negotiations for Ukraine and the Middle East.
