The transportation secretary says the delayed project is over budget and receiving federal funding.
The Department of Transportation (DOT) recently announced that the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) opened a review of the ongoing high-speed rail project in the California Central Valley.
The California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) initially estimated that the new rail line, which would run between San Francisco and Los Angeles, would cost $33 billion and be completed by 2020. While the project is underway, CHSRA now estimates that the project will cost $106 billion and likely be completed by 2033. The federal agency is investigating how these funds are being used since the federal government has contributed $4 billion per year to this project.
“For too long, taxpayers have subsidized the massively over-budget and delayed California High-Speed Rail project,” said Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy. “That is why I am directing my staff to review and determine whether the CHSRA has followed through on the commitments it made to receive billions of dollars in federal funding.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For discernment for Secretary Duffy as he heads the Department of Transportation.
- For members of the Senate as they consider David Fink for confirmation as Administrator of the Federal Railroad Administration.
