Secretary Duffy and President Trump express concern over the impact on working class Americans.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy wrote a letter to New York Governor Kathy Hochul this week, informing her the Federal Highway Administration will work with the New York Department of Transportation to terminate New York City’s congestion pricing program.
“I share the president’s concerns about the impacts to working class Americans who now have an additional financial burden to account for in their daily lives,” Secretary Duffy wrote. “Every American should be able to access New York City regardless of their economic means. It shouldn’t be reserved for an elite few.”
The congestion pricing went into effect on January 5, charging cars entering Manhattan a $9 daily rate below 60th Street, and a variety of smaller rates for other vehicles during off-peak times. The program was opposed by New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy but approved by President Biden’s administration, which supported the policy as a way to reduce pollution and increase funding to improve the city’s aging public transit system.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority has filed a suit to preserve the congestion toll.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Duffy to receive God’s direction as he heads the Transportation Department.
- For wisdom for President Trump as he addresses the high cost of living for Americans.
- For FHWA officials as they collaborate with NY state personnel on ending the toll.
- For judges as they hear challenges to the actions of the president’s administration.
