Congress Places Hold on Arms Sale to Israel

President Trump could potentially override the block.

Members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee placed a hold on a $1 billion arms sale to Israel on Tuesday. Once proposed arms sales pass a large spending threshold, the chairs or ranking members on these committees have the authority to individually block the ordered weapons.

This weapons package had been prepared at President Donald Trump’s request to welcome Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who visited the White House on Tuesday. The Israeli prime minister is the first foreign leader to visit the White House at the start of President Trump’s second term.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For members of Congress as they assess the alliance between the U.S. and Israel.
  • For the president and his foreign policy advisors as they propose options to address the Middle East.
