Over 60,000 government employees had accepted the deferred resignation offer prior to the judge’s response to the government employees union legal challenge.
On Thursday, a federal judge in Boston placed an injunction against the deferred resignation plan offered to federal employees by President Trump’s administration a week ago. Federal government employees’ unions have brought a legal challenge against the buyout. Thursday had been the deadline given for government workers to accept the plan.
Approximately 60,000 government employees, around 3 percent of the federal workforce, had accepted the offer at the time. National security employees, U.S. postal service workers, military personnel, and immigration enforcement were generally exempted from the deferred resignation offer. Also, despite some receiving the email offer in error, air traffic controllers were not included in the buyout.
Judge George O’Toole placed the pause over the weekend, extending the offer deadline, until he can hear arguments on the legality of the buyout in court on Monday.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For wisdom for the judge as he considers the legality of the federal employee buyout offer.
- For the president and DOGE personnel as they seek to trim the federal government.
