Defense Secretary Supports Expanded Border Security Efforts

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth recently reaffirmed the Department of Defense’s (DOD) commitment to securing the U.S.-Mexico border by working alongside the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Measures include deploying National Guard and active-duty troops, reinforcing physical barriers, and coordinating federal resources.

Secretary Hegseth also addressed the administration’s strategy to detain certain criminal migrants at Guantanamo Bay, following an executive order from President Trump directing the Defense and Homeland Security Departments to prepare for up to 30,000 detainees. He emphasized that while the facility has historically housed terrorism suspects, it also serves broader humanitarian and migrant operations.

“This is not the camps,” Secretary Hegseth stated. “This is a temporary transit which is already the mission of Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, where we can plus-up thousands — and tens of thousands, if necessary — to humanely move illegals out of our country where they do not belong [and] back to the countries where they came from in proper process.”

He clarified that this initiative differs from past counterterrorism operations, saying the goal is to return individuals to their home countries through established procedures.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Hegseth to be discerning as he oversees the Department of Defense.
  • For wisdom for President Trump as he implements enforcement of federal immigration laws.
