ACLU Sues Administration for Ending Asylum Protections

The group claims Congress has given asylum seekers legal protections at the border.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) sued President Trump’s administration this week for the executive order ending asylum protections at the U.S. border. Filed on behalf of nonprofit organizations that offer legal services to asylum seekers, the lawsuit stated that the order contradicts Congressional law, which has more legal authority than an executive order.

The suit claims, “Via the Immigration and Nationality Act (‘INA’), Congress has created a comprehensive statutory system allowing noncitizens fleeing persecution or torture to seek protection in the United States.”

“Congress has given these individuals statutory rights to apply for asylum and other protections. And it has prohibited the government from returning these individuals to places where they face persecution or torture,” the suit adds.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For discernment for the judge who hears the lawsuit to rightly interpret the law and asylum statutes.
  • For the president and his national security personnel as they seek to end illegal immigration at the border.
