President Trump issues executive order on school choice.
The U.S. Department of Education responded to the public release of the National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP), also known as the Nation’s Report Card.
The department stated that the 2024 “NAEP results reveal a heartbreaking reality for American students and confirm our worst fears: not only did most students not recover from pandemic-related learning loss, but those students who were the most behind and needed the most support have fallen even further behind. Despite the billions of dollars that the federal government invests in K-12 education annually, and the approximately $190 billion in federal pandemic funds, our education system continues to fail students across the nation. We must do better for our students.“
President Trump signed an executive order to expand educational freedom and opportunity for families this past week. He stated, “Too many children do not thrive in their assigned, government-run K-12 school.“
The president continued, “According to this year’s National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), 70 percent of 8th graders were below proficient in reading, and 72 percent were below proficient in math.“
He ordered, “Within 60 days of the date of this order, the Secretary of Education shall issue guidance regarding how States can use Federal formula funds to support K-12 educational choice initiatives. The Secretary of Education shall include education freedom as a priority in discretionary grant programs, as appropriate and consistent with applicable law.“
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For President Trump as he works to improve the educational opportunities for American students.
- For members of the Senate as they consider Linda McMahon for Education Secretary.
