The vice president cast the tie-breaking vote on defense secretary confirmation.
On Friday, members of the Senate voted on the confirmation of Pete Hegseth for Secretary of Defense. Three members of the president’s party voted against the nominee, causing a 50-50 split and requiring Vice President JD Vance to cast the tie-breaking vote. Secretary Hegseth was sworn into office by the vice president Saturday morning.
Secretary Hegseth called the opportunity to serve in the role an “honor of a lifetime,” and said, “All praise and glory to God. His will be done and we’re grateful to be here.”
The new defense secretary stated, “At the Pentagon, we’re going to remember, and we’re going to think about those warriors with every single decision that we make. We will put America first. We will bring peace through strength.”
On Saturday, the Senate confirmed Kristi Noem as the Secretary of Homeland Security, rounding out President Trump’s national security officials, since John Ratcliffe was confirmed to be Director of the Central Intelligence Agency on Thursday and sworn in that evening.
The new DHS secretary stated, “I will work every day to keep all Americans safe and secure. One of my top priorities is achieving President Trump’s mandate from the American people to secure our southern border and fix our broken immigration system.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
