An 8-month extension was granted by the department amid ongoing conflict and human rights abuses.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recently announced an 18-month extension of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Sudan due to ongoing armed conflict and severe humanitarian conditions. This decision follows a review of Sudan’s political instability, which has led to human rights violations, including attacks on civilians and restricted access to essential supplies.
The extension will allow approximately 1,900 eligible Sudanese nationals in the U.S. to re-register for TPS, provided they meet the eligibility criteria, including continuous residency since August 16, 2023.
The department stated that all applicants undergo stringent national security and public safety checks, with individuals deemed threats subject to removal or investigation. Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) previously issued under Sudan’s TPS designation will automatically remain valid for 12 months to prevent gaps in employment eligibility.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Mayorkas as he finalizes designations and makes decisions in the final days of the current administration.
- For wisdom for DHS officials as they address migration status for foreign nationals experiencing violence and human rights abuses.
