Senate Committee Holds Hearing for Defense Secretary Nominee

Members question Pete Hegseth’s character and military philosophy.

On Tuesday, the Senate Armed Services Committee began the confirmation process for President-elect Trump’s nominee for Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth. Senators from the majority asked questions regarding the nominee’s military experience and his philosophy for leading the U.S. Armed Forces.

After being asked about the military possibly being a racist organization, Mr. Hegseth responded, “If not the least, one of the least racist institutions in our country is the United States military.”

He continued, “Being a racist in our military has not been tolerated for a very long time. Never in my formations. Never in other formations.”

Members of the minority party brought up assault allegations against him, which were found to be false by law enforcement. When asked about cheating on the mother of his child seven years ago, Mr. Hegseth replied, “I have failed in things in my life and thankfully I’m redeemed by my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the chair and members of the Senate Armed Forces Committee as they examine the background of Mr. Hegseth.
  • For the president-elect and the nominees for his Cabinet to rely on God’s wisdom and strength.
