Judge Merchan pronounces sentence Friday.
Thursday evening, the majority of justices on the Supreme Court turned down President-elect Trump’s emergency petition to halt sentencing in the New York “hush money” case.
The court stated, “The application for stay presented to Justice Sotomayor and by her referred to the Court is denied for, inter alia, the following reasons. First, the alleged evidentiary violations at President-Elect Trump’s state-court trial can be addressed in the ordinary course on appeal. Second, the burden that sentencing will impose on the President-Elect’s responsibilities is relatively insubstantial in light of the trial court’s stated intent to impose a sentence of “unconditional discharge” after a brief virtual hearing. Justice Thomas, Justice Alito, Justice Gorsuch, and Justice Kavanaugh would grant the application.“
The president-elect has maintained innocence in the case, in which a jury convicted him last summer of falsifying payment records over an alleged affair.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the justices of the Supreme Court to receive God’s guidance as they make decisions on emergency requests.
- For the president-elect and his team as they prepare to take office.
- For the judge in the NY case as he prepares to sentence President Trump.
