Issue 682 – Federal Branches

Praying for Our Leaders in Government

Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration

President Joe Biden announced that the federal government would cover all of the costs of the initial disaster response for the wildfires in Los Angeles County. He pledged 180 days’ worth of assistance to support debris removal, temporary shelters, and salaries for first responders. He urged California officials to “spare no expense to do what they need to do.”

Pray for President Biden as he prepares to vacate the White House and for President Trump as he readies for his second administration.

Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress

House Speaker Mike Johnson ordered that American flags at the Capitol will fly at full-staff on January 20 “to celebrate our country coming together behind the inauguration of our 47th President, Donald Trump.” The flags will resume half-mast the following day to honor the passing of President Carter.

For wisdom for Speaker Johnson and Senate Majority Leader Thune as they preside over their respective chambers.

PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES

The Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee, chaired by Senator Jerry Moran of Kansas, postponed starting the confirmation process of Congressman Doug Collins of Georgia due to not having received the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s background check on President Trump’s nominee for Veterans’ Affairs Secretary. The hearing has been rescheduled for the coming week.

Pray for Senate committee chairs and members as they begin the confirmation process for the nominees in the incoming administration.

Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges

A federal judge has ruled that American Airlines violated federal law by using Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG) principles to guide employees’ 401(k) plan investments. The judge pointed to the airline’s major shareholder, multinational investment management firm Blackrock, as a greater influence on investment decisions than the financial interests of retirement plan beneficiaries, in violation of the federal Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA).

Pray for discernment for the justices and judges who hear and decide cases related to social justice or climate-based ideologies.
