House Speaker Seeks Plan B for Spending Bill

Contested measures include Congressional pay increase and funding for the Global Engagement Center.

House Speaker Mike Johnson is looking for alternate options for the 3-month continuing resolution to keep the government open beyond Friday night. The original legislation met with opposition from members of the speaker’s party as a 40 percent pay raise for Congress and funding for the State Department’s Global Engagement Center were included.

The House speaker’s office stated, “Speaker Johnson has killed multiple efforts to pass a 5-year reauthorization of the GEC during the past year, including as recently as the NDAA last week,” but he had accepted a year extension as a compromise with the Senate.

The original measure also allowed members of Congress to opt out of Obamacare.

President-elect Donald Trump stated that the House majority should call the bluff of those threatening to shut down the government.

Future Department of Government Efficiency officials Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy voiced their opposition to the legislation. Musk stated that Congress should pass no bills until President-elect Trump takes office.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For House Speaker Johnson to receive God’s direction on temporarily funding the government.
  • For members of the House and Senate as they negotiate provisions in the continuing resolution.
  • For the president-elect and his team as they provide input and recommendations ahead of taking office.
