Issue 679 – Federal Branches

Praying for Our Leaders in Government

Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration

The Department of Education has withdrawn the Title IX final rule that would require schools that receive federal funds to allow biological males to compete in girls’ and women’s sports if they identify as transgender females. Secretary Cardona stated, “In light of the comments received and those various pending court cases, the Department has determined not to regulate on this issue at this time.”

Pray for the president and Cabinet officials as they make decisions and take action in the remaining weeks of this term.

Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress

Senators Gary Peters of Michigan and James Lankford of Oklahoma are seeking answers from Director Collette Peters of the Federal Bureau of Prisons as to why faith-based nonprofits have not been approved for programs under the First Step Act. The legislators called out the inaction of the bureau as well as its discriminatory practices regarding recidivism-reduction partnerships.

Pray for senators and representatives as they provide oversight to ensure federal agencies follow congressional legislation.

PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES

The Senate Judiciary Committee, chaired by Senator Dick Durbin, held a hearing discussing the growth of sports betting and the lack of federal regulation since the Supreme Court repealed the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) in May of 2018. Earlier this month, two senators requested the Justice Department and Federal Trade Commission to investigate online platforms FanDuel and DraftKings for antitrust collaboration.

Pray for the members of committees as they endeavor to prevent monopolies and protect consumers from predatory companies.

Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges

Federal judges in two different districts issued injunctions against the merger between Kroger and Albertsons supermarkets. They concluded the move would lessen competition. The companies have claimed that merging would make them more competitive with Walmart, Costco, and Amazon.

Pray that federal judges and justices would receive God’s guidance as they hear cases and issue decisions.
