Turkish government offers public backing and refuge for Hamas leadership.
Over three dozen bipartisan federal legislators have requested a classified meeting on the details of Turkey’s relationship with leaders of Hamas in a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines. Since Hamas’s October 7 attack on Israel and subsequent conflict with Israeli forces, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has called the terrorist government a “liberation group,” and welcomed dislocated Hamas leaders seeking refuge in his country.
“Throughout the tenure of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Turkey’s relationship with Hamas has long been an issue of concern,” the legislators wrote.
The letter stated, “Reports of Hamas’s potential relocation of its headquarters to Turkey, a NATO ally, are deeply concerning and dramatically escalate existing concerns about Turkey’s relationship with the terrorist group. With these concerns in mind, we request an immediate briefing in a classified setting to discuss.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For federal legislators as they seek to ensure the terrorist group is not being given asylum by NATO member Turkey.
- For Secretary Blinken and DNI Haines to be transparent in their response to Congress.
