Federal Court Orders Jeweler to Reopen Refund Claims for Customers

Retailer violated settlement terms by closing portal – consumers are encouraged to act before the December 21 deadline.

Harris Jewelry was found to be in violation of its settlement terms with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) by prematurely closing down a claims portal. A federal court ordered the jeweler to reopen its claims process last week and to notify impacted customers, the majority of whom are active military, about their refund eligibility.

The claims portal will be open through December 21, 2024, giving consumers who purchased items, including Lifetime Jewelry and Watch Protection Plans, the opportunity to seek refunds. Eligible individuals may file claims through the jeweler’s website.

The original settlement addressed allegations that the business engaged in deceptive practices, such as falsely claiming that financing purchases would improve servicemembers’ credit scores and adding unwanted protection plans to transactions without consent. The court had ordered the retailer to cancel millions in debt, refund customers for protection plans (totaling up to $10.9 million), and help remove negative credit entries tied to their financing.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Chair Khan and members of the FTC as they seek to ensure fair business practices.
  • For FTC officials as they enforce federal regulations and legal judgments against businesses who violate the law or settlement terms.
