He says, “Women deserve women’s-only spaces.”
Speaker of the House Mike Johnson announced a policy requiring transgender members of the House to use bathrooms associated with their biological sex, rather than their chosen gender. Speaker Johnson, having “general control” of all chamber facilities, exercised this authority to implement this policy after Representative Nancy Mace of South Carolina introduced a resolution to protect women’s spaces.
“All single-sex facilities in the Capitol and House Office Buildings — such as restrooms, changing rooms, and locker rooms — are reserved for individuals of that biological sex,” Speaker Johnson announced. “It is important to note that each Member office has its own private restroom, and unisex restrooms are available throughout the Capitol.”
“Women deserve women’s only spaces,” he added.
Representative-elect Sarah McBride of Delaware will be sworn into the 119th Congress as the first openly transgender person to serve on Capitol Hill. The incoming representative denounced the measure but agreed to comply.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For wisdom for Speaker Johnson as he navigates the societal and cultural issues facing the nation and the legislative branch.
- For Congresswoman Mace as she seeks to ensure women are protected on all federal grounds.
