DHS Secretary and FBI Director Insist on Private Senate Hearing on Global Threats

The committee chair calls it a “shocking departure” from the annual, end-of-year public hearing.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Christopher Wray have refused to testify at a public hearing before the Senate Homeland Security Committee. They requested a private hearing instead, citing the sensitive nature of the information they would provide.

Senator Gary Peters of Michigan, chair of the committee, called the move a “shocking departure” from the normal annual, end-of-year hearing that provides information regarding critical security issues.

The FBI stated that a classified briefing would be more beneficial and that the director has “testified extensively” about national threats. The agency continued, “The FBI has repeatedly demonstrated our commitment to responding to Congressional oversight and being transparent with the American people.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Chairman Peters and members of the committee as they consider the request for a private hearing.
  • For discernment for the DHS secretary and FBI director as they refuse to publically testify.
