Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift! – 2 Corinthians 9:15
Christmas is less than a month away. For most, giving and receiving gifts is a large part of the celebration of that special day. Many homes will display a nativity scene. Some will keep the baby Jesus out of the prepared manger until Christmas Eve. But how many take the time to consider the gift that God has given them in the incarnation of His Son, Jesus?
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). Tennessee pastor Tom Maines says, “The gift was unveiled for the world to see, unspeakable in its nature, unbelievable in its purpose, and unfathomable in its love. … The gift of God is unending in its availability, unequaled in its cost, unmistakable in its authenticity, and unparalleled in its influence.” One commentary states this gift is “ impossible to describe adequately, beyond description; too intense, extreme, … too extraordinary for description: “
Theologian Adam Clarke writes, “Jesus Christ, the gift of God’s love to mankind, is an unspeakable blessing; no man can conceive, much less declare, how great this gift is; for these things the angels desire to look into. Therefore he may be well called the unspeakable gift, as he is the highest God ever gave or can give to man. ‘...thanks be to God.‘”
As your thoughts shift toward Christmas, remember to meditate on the indescribable gift God has given you and what it cost Him! Even as you begin wrapping gifts for others, you can unwrap this Very Best Gift, through prayer and the study of Scripture, knowing you can share Him, too! “The love of God is greater far, than tongue or pen can ever tell,” the old hymn says. Ponder these things and give thanks to God!

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men.
14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. 15 (John bore witness about him, and cried out, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me ranks before me, because he was before me.’”) 16 For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
