Issue 674 – Federal Branches

Praying for Our Leaders in Government

Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration

The Justice Department is poised to request U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta to require Google to sell its Chrome internet browser. The judge already ruled, back in August, that Google monopolized the search market illegally.

Pray for DOJ officials as they seek to protect the U.S. market from monopolizing actions from businesses.

Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress

Senators Jerry Moran of Kansas and Chris Coons of Delaware have signed a letter to Acting Labor Secretary Julie Su requesting that the proposal of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to increase training and other requirements for fire departments exempt volunteer firefighters. Over 85 percent of fire departments in the nation are majority volunteer and, the legislators state, such stringent new regulations could shutter up to 80 percent of them.

Pray for legislators in both chambers as they seek to balance safety regulations with the practicalities of rural America.

PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES

The House Judiciary Committee, chaired by Representative Jim Jordan of Ohio, released a report this fall showing President Biden’s administration has dismissed, terminated, or administratively closed increasing numbers of migrants’ immigration cases. The Departments of Justice and Homeland Security have thus allowed more than 700,000 migrants who entered the U.S. illegally “to stay in the country indefinitely without facing immigration consequences.”

Pray for the members of committees as they review and provide oversight for federal agencies.

Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges

The state of Utah has requested the Supreme Court take up a challenge of the federal government’s holding large pieces of land in the state without defining its purpose. The state claims this is a federal overreach, undermining the principle of federalism and stopping the state and its citizens from benefiting from the land.

Pray for wisdom for federal justices and judges as they hear cases regarding states’ rights.
