DOI Distributes $16 Billion from Energy Production on Federal Lands

The revenue is the result of oil, gas, hydropower, and other energy production.

The Department of the Interior (DOI) distributed the 2024 revenue from energy production on federal lands, sending $16.45 billion to the states and Tribal Nations that house the locations. This is the fourth-largest revenue disbursement since 1982, with oil, gas, hydropower, and renewable energy initiatives generating record revenue through federal leasing options. Tribes and individual mineral owners, who granted permission for their lands to be used for federal energy production, received $1.18 billion of that revenue.

“The revenues disbursed to 33 federally recognized Tribes and approximately 31,000 individual Indian mineral owners represent 100 percent of the revenues received for energy and mineral production activities on Indian lands,” the Interior Department stated. “Tribes use these revenues to develop infrastructure, provide health care and education, and support other critical community development programs, such as senior centers, public safety projects, and youth initiatives.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Haaland as she heads the Department of the Interior.
  • For Interior officials as they oversee the energy development and partnerships with land owners.
