President Joe Biden is going to ceremonially pardon the Thanksgiving turkeys on the South Lawn of the White House today.
The National Turkey Federation has provided the turkeys to the White House since 1947, with a formal presentation first being made to President Harry Truman, who did not spare the fowl.
President John F. Kennedy was the first to spare the turkey from becoming dinner in 1963. President George H.W. Bush was the first to officially use the term “pardon” in 1989. President Lincoln is also rumored to have spared the life of a turkey at Christmas.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the president as he engages in the annual pardoning tradition.
- For Secretary Vilsack and officials in the Department of Agriculture as they oversee programs to ensure a strong food supply chain.
- With gratitude for God’s blessings and mercy upon the United States over its 248 years.
