The county had endeavored to extend absentee ballot acceptance through Friday.
The Georgia State Supreme Court ruled on Monday that Cobb County cannot extend acceptance of absentee ballots through Friday, as it had announced. Plaintiffs filed a lawsuit to ensure that the designated election day deadline would be observed.
The state’s high court determined the county must receive the ballots by election day to be counted, regardless of the delay in receiving mailed ballots, which were not mailed until late last week. The court canceled the extension, and voters will need to go to the polls or bring the absentee ballot to their precinct for their votes to be counted.
The court directed the county to let affected voters know via email, text, and online at the county’s election board site. The county will keep ballots separately that are received after election day but by the Friday extension.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For election officials in each and every state to follow the laws and regulations for processing ballots.
- For judges and courts who are still hearing and determining voting and election-related cases.
