In the News…

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is facilitating the development of geothermal energy as part of the president’s agenda on climate and clean energy. The administration sees potential in geothermal energy to achieve the goal of a carbon pollution-free power sector by 2035.

“The BLM is committed to supporting the responsible growth of geothermal energy on public lands,” said BLM Director Tracy Stone-Manning. “We need all the tools in the toolbox to reach a clean energy future, and this proposed categorical exclusion will be helpful in accelerating the process of locating new geothermal resources.”

The bureau recently approved the Fervo Cape Geothermal Power Project in Beaver County, Utah, which is anticipated to generate up to 2 gigawatts of power through innovative technology, which should supply energy to more than 2 million homes.
