Army Private Attempting to Aid ISIS Sentenced to 14 Years of Prison

He sent sensitive information to covert FBI agent posing as ISIS fighter.

A former Army private was sentenced to over 14 years in prison for attempting to support the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) in its operations against U.S. military forces, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced on Friday.

According to court documents, the 24-year-old Cole Bridges regularly searched online for content promoting jihadist ideology before he joined the U.S. Army in September 2019. After a year, the young man began communicating with a covert member of the FBI posing as an ISIS supporter with direct ties to ISIS fighters in the Middle East.

“During these communications, Bridges expressed his frustration with the U.S. military and his desire to aid ISIS,” the Justice Department said. “Bridges then provided training and guidance to purported ISIS fighters who were planning attacks, including advice about potential targets in New York City.”

The former private also sent video footage of him in U.S. Army clothing standing in front of the ISIS flag and narrating a speech in support of an ambush on U.S. troops.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Attorney General Merrick Garland to receive God’s direction as he heads the Justice Department.
  • For DOJ officials as they investigate and prosecute supporters of terrorism.
