Secretary of State Antony Blinken traveled to Laos this week to attend the East Asia Summit and the U.S.-Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit. The nations’ officials discussed climate change, the digital economy, and a variety of geopolitical issues.
“Over the past four years, the U.S. and ASEAN have made our partnership stronger and more wide-ranging than it has ever been before,” Secretary Blinken said. “Every day, our cooperation is helping to better the lives of our combined one billion people – creating economic opportunity, fostering technological innovation, advancing a shared vision of an open, prosperous, and secure Indo-Pacific, with ASEAN at its center.”
The United States is ASEAN’s largest foreign investor, facilitating $500 billion in global trade with businesses throughout the area.
