DOT Proposes Update to Truck Hazardous Material Transport Rules

The regulation improves communication requirements, allows video, fiber optic inspections.

The Department of Transportation (DOT) proposed updates to regulations for trucks carrying hazardous materials in a new proposed rule published this month. The document prescribes various modernizations to existing policies, including simplifying hazard communications requirements, reducing review times for tank design improvements, and permitting inspectors to use video and fiber optics while reviewing cargo tanks.

“Hazardous materials are a significant share of the essential goods routinely shipped in the United States, and the Biden-Harris Administration is working to make it more affordable and straightforward to safely move these materials through our supply chains,” said Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. “The proposal we’re announcing today streamlines requirements while maintaining safety measures, helping to reduce costs for businesses and consumers and make it easier for drivers to do their job.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Buttigieg and U.S. transportation officials as they seek to streamline the process for hazardous material freight improvements.
  • For the members of the National Transportation Safety Board to be discerning in their oversight.
