They request that President Sheinbaum conduct a national review.
Twenty members of Congress wrote a letter to Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum urging that she address national security concerns posed by Chinese-made electric vehicles (EV), suggesting the new leader conduct a national review and begin collaborative talks with the United States.
Many new cars use internet and data-tracking devices to more easily connect with personal devices and share diagnostic data with car servicing businesses. U.S. intelligence believes it is likely that the Chinese government can legally access the data collected by Chinese-based automakers due to lax data collection laws in the People’s Republic of China.
“We believe that this body of data, under the control of the Chinese Communist Party, is a national security threat,” said the letter, led by Representative Elissa Slotkin of Michigan and Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio.
To address this threat, the Commerce Department has proposed a new rule that would ban imports of Chinese EVs in the United States.

- For wisdom for senators and representatives as they engage foreign leaders regarding mutual concerns.
