President Biden commend life’s work of the Nobel laureate.
Former President Jimmy Carter celebrated his 100th birthday on Tuesday, holding a private gathering to mark the day with close family and friends at his home in Plains, Georgia. President Joe Biden released a statement honoring President Carter’s life’s work, saying that Carter had always been “a moral force for our nation and the world.”
“Your hopeful vision of our country, your commitment to a better world, and your unwavering belief in the power of human goodness continues to be a guiding light for all of us,” President Biden stated.
President Carter served a single term as president from 1977 to 1981, using his administration to promote human rights and alleviate poverty in the U.S. and in countries around the world. His work during and after his time as president earned him the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.
The former president worked extensively with Habitat for Humanity after his presidency and founded his own humanitarian organization called the Carter Center with his late wife, Rosalynn Carter, to whom he was married to for 77 years.
