Issue 668 – Federal Branches

Praying for Our Leaders in Government

Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration

President Joe Biden commended the United Kingdom on ceding sovereignty of the Chagos Islands to Mauritius. The president had encouraged the incoming government of Great Britain to give up the territory in the Indian Ocean. The military base located there will continue to be shared by the U.S. and UK.

Pray for the president and his advisors as they influence the decisions of other countries.

Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress

Representative Matt Gaetz wrote to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas regarding whistleblower reports of Federal Emergency Management Agency misappropriating funds. He sent the letter after Secretary Mayorkas said that FEMA did not “have enough funds to make it through the [hurricane] season.”

Pray for U.S. legislators as they follow up on the reports from whistleblowers and seek to ensure federal agencies used the funds as Congress appropriated.

PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES

Some members of the House Energy Committee were joined by colleagues from both the House and Senate in requesting information from Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm regarding the studies the Energy Department has used to justify its pause on liquified natural gas (LNG) permits. The investigation is based on the errors that were found in the study prior to going through peer review.

Pray for the members of congressional committees as they conduct investigations into the basis for federal agency policies.

Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges

In Garland v. VanDerStok, some justices of the Supreme Court queried the administration’s redefinition of “firearm” to include components. The ATF rule in question designates gun parts and “partially complete pistol frames” as “firearms.” Justice Gorsuch pointed out that, only three years ago, “The government represented that an unfinished frame or receiver does not meet the statutory definition of a firearm.”

Pray for discernment for the Supreme Court justices as they hear oral arguments and consider requests for injunctions.
