Commerce Launches Semiconductor Workforce Center of Excellence

The department intends to develop workforce necessary to develop a new semiconductor sector.

The Commerce Department recently announced the launch of the National Semiconductor Technology Center’s (NSTC) Workforce Center of Excellence (WCoE), a new collaboration to support the workforce creation necessary for America’s semiconductor industry.

President Biden’s administration is looking to develop the workforce required to meet America’s demand for semiconductors and return production to the United States. The WCoE is intended to facilitate leaders from the government, private companies, and nonprofits to strengthen recruitment and training for new workers in the domestic semiconductor sector.

“Our nation’s competitiveness relies on a strong, diverse, and empowered workforce,” said Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo. “The mission of the WCoE and WFPA will play a crucial role in this effort.”

She added, “With the Department’s proposed investments of over $500 million in workforce efforts, this announcement is a critical milestone in our strategy to build a robust workforce in the semiconductor industry to help fulfill the mission set forth by the CHIPS and Science Act.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Commerce Secretary Raimondo and department officials as they support the development of the semiconductor workforce.
  • For wisdom for the president, vice president, and administration advisors as they seek to increase domestic microchip production.
